EFU partition control is usually not a matter of 'just plug it in and use it' in device-side projects. Multiple EFUs are hung on the same RS485 bus. If the wiring topology, address allocation and start-stop logic are not clarified before debugging, some EFUs will not respond after power-on, the entire group will behave inconsistently, or the communication will be intermittent. The problem to be solved by partition control is to divide the EFU groups inside the equipment according to clean areas to receive start, stop and speed adjustment instructions respectively, and at the same time, allow the host computer or equipment PLC to read the status of each EFU. The implementation path is not complicated, but the four links of wiring, parameters, logic and debugging need to be checked in order. Aili Industrial's 70mm ultra-thin EFU supports RS485/Modbus control interface. The partition address and speed adjustment instructions can be configured according to the equipment drawings. The control point table is provided with the complete machine confirmation drawing.
The physical layer basis of EFU partition control is the RS485 bus. The typical wiring method between multiple EFUs is hand-in-hand series connection : starting from the control terminal (PLC or gateway), RS485+ and RS485- are connected to the communication terminal of the first EFU in sequence, and then led from another communication interface of the first EFU to the second one, and so on. Each EFU is equivalent to a node on the bus, and the serial connection sequence determines the physical location reference for subsequent address allocation.
The key point of wiring for partition control is the correspondence between the starting point of the bus and the partition boundary . If the equipment is divided into two clean areas A and B, and each area has several EFUs, a clearer approach is: the EFUs in area A are connected in series into one bus, and the EFUs in area B are connected in series into another bus. The two buses are respectively connected to different communication ports of the PLC or different channels of the gateway. In this way, the start and stop commands of area A will not be sent to area B by mistake, and communication failures in one area will not hinder another area. If the number of PLC ports is limited and multiple partitions share a bus, the partitions must be separated by different address segments at the parameter level, and the correspondence between the addresses and physical locations must be confirmed one by one during debugging.
In EFU supply, Aili Industry can provide communication terminal definitions and bus topology suggestions according to equipment partitions. The RS485 wiring polarity (A/B or +/-) is marked in the wiring diagram to avoid communication failure caused by reverse connection on site. Regarding the fixation and sealing of EFU and equipment mounting surface, please refer toHow to confirm the mounting hole position of customized EFU? datum, tolerance, fixing and sealing surface inspection .Verification diagram verification method for
After the wiring is completed, parameter configuration is the key to making the partition control 'addressable'. Each EFU requires a on the RS485 bus unique slave address . It is recommended that address allocation be segmented by partition: for example, use 1-10 for area A and 11-20 for area B. In this way, in the PLC program, you can determine which partition the EFU belongs to according to the address range, and it will not be easy to confuse when adding or replacing EFU in the future.
Communication parameters need to be consistent on both ends: baud rate, data bits, stop bits and parity bits. The default parameters of the EFU controller may be different from the equipment PLC. Before debugging, you should confirm whether the two parties match. If the EFU supports parameter modification, it is recommended to configure it according to the project requirements before leaving the factory or installation, instead of changing it one by one on site. The choice of baud rate requires a trade-off between communication distance and anti-interference: when the internal wiring of the device is not long, a higher baud rate can shorten the polling cycle; if the bus is long or passes near a motor or frequency converter, an appropriate lower baud rate can help stabilize communication.
The speed control range also needs to be confirmed at the parameter level. Whether the EFU accepts 0-10V analog quantity or Modbus writing register speed adjustment, the corresponding range mapping relationship is different. Taking Modbus as an example, the written value 0-100 may correspond to 0-100% rotation speed, or it may correspond to a certain wind speed range. The specific mapping relationship requires the supplier to provide a register table. Aili Industrial's EFU control solution supports the RS485/Modbus protocol. The register address table and speed regulation mapping relationship are provided with the confirmation diagram, which facilitates the equipment PLC to write set values by partition. The core of the logical design of partition control is to answer three questions: who sends the instructions, to whom the instructions are sent, and how to confirm the execution results.。
The start-stop logic is usually controlled by the equipment PLC according to the process rhythm. For example, before the wafer enters a certain area, the EFU in this area starts in advance; after the process is completed, the EFU is delayed and stopped. The granularity of partition start and stop can be that the entire area acts together, or it can be a single unit or a combination of multiple units in the area. If the equipment process requires different areas to maintain different wind speeds, the speed adjustment instructions need to be issued separately by partition, rather than a global setting value. DC EFU speed regulation methods usually include voltage regulation and frequency conversion. The frequency conversion method has a larger speed regulation range and better smoothness, but the cost of the controller is relatively high.
Status feedback is an easily underestimated part of partitioned control. After the PLC sends the start command, it needs to confirm whether the EFU is really spinning, whether the speed reaches the set value, and whether there is a fault alarm. If the EFU only accepts instructions without returning status, the partition control becomes 'open loop', and the stalling of an EFU may not be discovered until there is a problem with the product. The Modbus interface can read the operating status, actual speed and fault code. These registers should be checked one by one during the debugging stage to confirm the correspondence between the address and the physical EFU. For information on the relationship between EFU power abnormalities and troubleshooting, please refer toWhat is the reason for EFU power abnormality? Inspection sequence, handling methods and preventive measures .
To debug EFU partition control, it is recommended to follow the three steps of 'Single machine → Partition → Linkage'. Do not run the whole group as soon as you start.
The first step is to confirm stand-alone communication . Only connect one EFU to the bus (or disconnect other nodes one by one), and use debugging tools or PLC to read the address, status and speed of the EFU. Confirm that the communication parameters match, the address is readable, and the speed adjustment command can change the speed. If this step doesn't work, check the wiring polarity and terminal resistance first instead of changing the program. When the RS485 bus is long or has many nodes, matching resistors may be needed at the end to suppress signal reflection.
In the second step, partitions are verified group by group . All EFUs in area A are connected, and the correspondence between the address and the physical location is confirmed one by one (you can check by 'starting an address and observing which EFU responds'). Then issue start, stop and speed adjustment instructions to the zone to check whether all EFUs in the zone act in unison and whether adjacent zones are not accidentally triggered. If a certain EFU does not respond, first check whether the wiring of the node is loose, and then confirm whether there is an address conflict.
The third step is complete machine linkage and abnormal simulation . Run the complete process cycle under the control logic of the equipment PLC, and confirm that the EFU start and stop sequence matches the equipment action. At the same time, simulate an abnormality: disconnect the communication line of an EFU and observe whether the PLC can report the node failure within a reasonable time; set an EFU to a fault state and confirm whether the partition logic will be adjusted accordingly. The debugging record should include the address, partition ownership, speed adjustment setting value and status feedback baseline value of each EFU, as a basis for comparison in subsequent maintenance. It should be avoided to mix EFUs from different partitions on the same bus without performing address segmentation. It should be avoided to directly power on the entire group without first confirming single-machine communication during debugging. It should be avoided to only issue instructions without reading status feedback. It should be avoided to judge that the communication failure is an EFU problem without confirming the matching resistor at the end of the bus. The core of EFU partition control is not 'connect the line and write an address', but the wiring topology, parameter mapping, control logic and debugging sequence to form a traceable correspondence.
Multiple EFUs are connected to the same RS485 bus. How many EFUs can be connected at most?
Depends on controller driving capabilities and communication parameters. A common practice is that each group of buses does not exceed 31 units, and when it exceeds, it is expanded through gateways or repeaters. The number of EFUs on the device side usually does not reach this level. However, if there are many partitions and the EFUs in a single area are dense, it is recommended to use separate buses according to partitions instead of stringing them all on one line.
How does the Modbus address of the EFU correspond to the address in the PLC program?
The slave address of the EFU is the physical node identifier, and the register is read and written through this address in the PLC program. A comparison table should be established during debugging: EFU physical location (number within the device) ↔ RS485 slave address ↔ partition ownership. When replacing the EFU, set the new address according to the table. Do not rely on 'just plug it in and it will work'.
Some EFUs do not work when the partition is started or stopped. Where can I check it?
First confirm whether the inactive EFU is in the same bus partition as the active EFU. If individual nodes in the same partition do not work, check the wiring and address of the node; if the entire partition does not work, check the PLC output or gateway channel. Use stand-alone communication to confirm whether the EFU itself is normal, and then determine whether it is a wiring problem or a logic problem.
