The difference between standard EFU and non-standard EFU seems to be just a matter of 'whether the size can be selected' on the purchase list. The standard model has fixed length, width, height and hole module, and the non-standard model is redesigned according to the equipment drawings. But what really determines which category to choose is the stage of the project and the EFU integration requirements of the equipment. Standard EFU is suitable for projects where the equipment structure has been finalized and the EFU is embedded as an independent module; non-standard EFU is suitable for scenarios where the EFU needs to be deeply integrated with the equipment sheet metal, air ducts, and control logic. The selection boundary is not on the line of 'standard cheap, non-standard expensive', but on the degree of constraint of the size interface and the certainty of the batch rhythm. Aili Industrial's EFU manufacturing system covers standard specifications and highly customized solutions. It can determine which items are suitable for direct matching of standard models based on equipment drawings, and which items need to enter non-standard processes.
The first type of project that standard EFU is suitable for is that the equipment itself has reserved standardized installation space for EFU. The opening size, fixed hole spacing and air outlet flange on the equipment sheet metal are designed according to the universal EFU module. There is no need to modify the equipment structure after the EFU is installed. This type of project is common in equipment manufacturers that use platform-based designs. The same series of equipment shares the same EFU installation interface under different configurations.
The second type of scenarios suitable for standard EFU are projects with clear batches and priority delivery. The standard model has ready-made molds and process routes, and does not require new drawings, proofing and confirmation, and the delivery time is shorter than that of non-standard machines. If the equipment factory's needs fall within the size and air volume coverage of the standard EFU, directly selecting the standard model can reduce the confirmation process. For details on how to confirm the cooperation between EFU and the equipment mounting surface, please refer toHow to confirm the mounting hole position of customized EFU? benchmark, tolerance, fixation and sealing surface inspection . Standard models also need to check the corresponding relationship between the hole position and the equipment sheet metal. The idea of benchmark marking in
The application of standard EFU has a prerequisite: the cleaning requirements of the equipment do not exceed the filtration level and air volume range of the standard model. If the clean area inside the equipment only requires H13 or H14 and the surface wind speed is within the normal range, the standard model can usually cover it. However, if the process section has special requirements for AMC, such as requiring PTFE boron-free filter material, the standard model may need to confirm whether the filter material option is open.
The first applicable scenario for non-standard EFU is when the internal space of the device does not allow standard models to be installed. The Z-axis space of the equipment is only a few tens of millimeters, and the cabinet thickness of the standard EFU or the protruding height of the motor exceeds the limit; or the hole layout of the equipment mounting surface does not match the standard module. Forcing the standard model to use requires modifying the equipment sheet metal, which is more costly than customizing the EFU. The customization requirements for ultra-thin EFU usually come from such space constraints - the cabinet height, motor position and junction box direction all need to be rearranged according to the internal clearance of the equipment. For the constraints of air duct design for ultra-thin models, please refer toHow to design ultra-thin EFU air duct? Compact structure, airflow organization and prototype verification are explained.
The second applicable scenario is when the device has non-standard requirements at the interface level for EFU. The air inlet direction of the EFU needs to be from the side instead of the top, the air outlet needs to be directly connected to the equipment air duct flange, the control interface needs to match the specific communication parameters of the equipment PLC, or the box material needs to be stainless steel to adapt to the corrosive atmosphere inside the equipment. Standard models with such needs cannot be covered by simple options and need to enter the customization process. In the equipment-side EFU project, Aili Industrial adjusts the size, interface and maintenance space according to the equipment drawings, so that the matching relationship between the EFU and the complete machine is solidified in the confirmation drawing.
The third type of scenario is that the project is in the prototype or first stage, and the equipment structure is still being iterated. The confirmation process of non-standard EFU itself will expose unspecified problems in the equipment installation surface, air duct direction and control logic. If you just make do with standard models, problems at the prototype stage will be postponed to the batch stage. The value of the non-standard process is not entirely in 'making an EFU of a special size', but in clarifying the cooperation relationship between the equipment and the EFU during the prototype stage.
To determine whether a project should be standard or non-standard, you can check it one by one according to three conditions. Dimensional conditions : Whether the clear height of the equipment installation space, the distance between installation faces, and the air outlet flange are within the specifications of the standard EFU. If any of these are exceeded, non-standard is a more pragmatic starting point. Interface conditions : Whether the electrical interface requires non-standard communication protocols or special connectors, whether the air duct interface requires side air inlet or non-standard flange, and whether the installation method requires special brackets. The interface options of the standard EFU are limited, and if the options exceed the scope, customization is required. Cadence conditions : Whether the project has a clear batch schedule. The delivery time of standard models is controllable, while time for confirmation drawings and prototype verification is required for non-standard models. If the equipment delivery node does not allow sampling and the standard models cannot be matched, you need to consider adjusting the equipment design or accepting non-standard cycles.

The configuration of non-standard EFU is not 'quote a size and place an order'. The equipment factory needs to provide the net dimensions of the installation space, the installation surface layout, the connection between the air outlet surface and the equipment air duct, the definition of the electrical interface and the filtering level requirements. The supplier will form a confirmation drawing based on this, marking the overall dimensions, hole position standards and tolerances, interface positions and sealing surface structure. Only after the confirmation drawings are checked by both parties can the prototype or first machine be produced.
For ultra-thin non-standard projects, the confirmation drawing also needs to indicate the relationship between the total height of the filter including the sealing gasket and the net height of the box, as well as the extraction space required to change the direction. To match the resistance characteristics of the filter to the working point of the fan, please refer toHow to choose EFU filter without partition? The efficiency, resistance, sealing and resistance check method in the whole machine matching method. The fan selection of non-standard EFU needs to be re-confirmed based on the actual filter resistance, and the parameters of the standard model cannot be used. After the prototype is completed, the measured size, air volume and vibration data are compared with the confirmation chart, and batch execution is carried out according to the same benchmark.
It should be avoided to use standard EFU to make up for the equipment space in order to save confirmation time. The sealing and vibration problems after installation will be magnified in the batch stage; it should be avoided to understand non-standard EFU as 'only changing the size', and the interface and air duct cooperation also need to be re-confirmed; it should be avoided to lock the non-standard configuration when the equipment structure is not finalized. Structural changes in the prototype stage will invalidate the confirmation drawing; it should be avoided to use the sample parameters of standard models to accept non-standard EFU, and the confirmation drawing is the only basis. The core of the choice between standard and non-standard is not the price difference, but the stage at which the cooperation relationship between the equipment and EFU is clearly confirmed.
Can the size of the standard EFU be changed?
The mold and process route of standard EFU are fixed, and the dimensions usually cannot be changed. If the installation space differs by a few millimeters from the standard size, consider adjusting the transition bracket on the equipment mounting surface rather than asking the supplier to modify the standard model. Requirements beyond the standard scope should enter the non-standard process.
How much longer is the delivery time for non-standard EFU than standard?
Depends on the complexity of the confirmation drawing and whether proofing is required. Simple size adjustments may only increase the confirmation and production scheduling time, while projects involving new molds or special interfaces require longer prototype cycles. Equipment manufacturers should reserve time for confirmation and first unit verification in the project plan for non-standard EFU.
Should I choose standard or non-standard for small batch projects?
First check whether the size and interface match. If the standard model can be installed and the interface is available, it is easier to choose the standard for small batches. If the standard model cannot be installed, the cost of a small batch of non-standard units will be higher, but it is more controllable than changing the sheet metal of the equipment or accepting mismatched installation. The smaller the batch size, the more it is necessary to confirm the non-standard minimum order quantity and fee structure in advance.
