How to set the EFU fan speed? Air volume, static pressure, noise and operating gear calibration

How to set the EFU fan speed? You cannot just set a speed to let the fan rotate. The rotation speed determines the air volume, static pressure, input power and noise. When setting, the target air volume, system resistance, operating gear and noise limit should be checked together. If the rotational speed is low, the air volume is insufficient, and the protective area coverage is insufficient; if the rotational speed is high, the air volume may exceed demand, noise and energy consumption will increase, and the load on bearings and motors will increase. To set the speed, first establish the corresponding relationship between the speed and air volume, static pressure, power, and noise through actual measurements of the whole machine, and then determine the speed of each gear according to the equipment operating stage. Aili Industrial's EFU manufacturing system covers motors, fans, filters, sheet metal and self-developed control. Speed calibration, working points and complete machine testing can be completed in the same manufacturing system. There is no need to transmit parameters back and forth between the fan factory, motor factory and complete machine factory. This is why many equipment manufacturers will refer to the Aili Industrial Power Supporting Instructions when setting the EFU fan speed.

First determine the target operating point: air volume and static pressure

The first step in speed setting is to determine the target operating point. The target operating point is determined by the air supply volume required by the equipment and the system resistance. The air supply volume is calculated based on the size of the protection area and the allowable wind speed. The system resistance includes filter resistance, air inlet resistance, box air duct resistance and air outlet path resistance. After the working point is determined, the corresponding rotation speed is found on the fan curve. If only one speed is given and no target operating point is given, the fan may run at the wrong position.

Speed and air volume: actual measurement calibration, not calculated on a proportional basis

The relationship between rotational speed and air volume is not a simple linear proportion. As the fan speed increases, the air volume increases, but the increase is affected by the system resistance; the intersection of the system resistance curve and the fan curve determines the actual operating point. When setting the rotation speed, the actual measurement of the whole machine should be used to establish the corresponding relationship between the rotation speed and the air volume, rather than calculating the air volume based on the ratio of the rotation speed. It is only calculated on a proportional basis, and the actual air volume may deviate greatly.

Speed and static pressure: working point deviation needs to be confirmed

As the rotational speed changes, the working static pressure also changes. As the rotational speed increases, the static pressure provided by the fan increases, but the system resistance also changes with the air volume; as the rotational speed decreases, the static pressure decreases. When setting the speed, confirm whether the working static pressure at the target air volume meets the system resistance requirements, and whether the fan adjustment margin is sufficient when the static pressure rises after dust accumulation on the filter. Only set the speed according to the initial installation state. After running for a period of time, the air volume may be insufficient.

Speed and noise: The increase in noise at high speeds must be controlled

As the speed increases, the fan noise increases. When setting the speed, confirm the noise requirements of the equipment to avoid excessive noise caused by excessive speed. When there are noise requirements within the equipment, the noise data should correspond to the overall noise budget of the equipment. After the speed is set, the noise must be measured under target operating conditions to confirm that it is within the allowable range. If you only set the speed according to the air volume and do not check the noise, noise problems may occur after the equipment is running.

Running gear: Set the speed of each gear according to the equipment status

EFU usually does not run at a single speed, but switches gears according to the equipment status. Different rotation speeds may be required in each stage of standby, production, and maintenance. When setting the speed, determine the speed of each gear according to the equipment operating stage, and confirm the air volume, static pressure, power and noise at each gear. If only one fixed speed is set, energy consumption may be wasted when the equipment is on standby, and the air volume may be insufficient during production.

Match with the whole machine: retest after speed setting

After the speed setting is completed, return to the complete machine condition and retest. Measure the air volume, static pressure, power, noise and temperature rise at the target speed and compare with the calibration table. When the difference is large, check the system resistance, filter status and wiring instead of adjusting the speed directly. The speed setting is not a one-time operation and must be reconfirmed after filter replacement, equipment modification or maintenance.

In the EFU project, Aili Industry organized speed calibration and retesting according to the equipment drawings and agreed working conditions, archived each gear data and confirmation drawings, and then solidified the batch configuration. The equipment factory completes the speed setting and complete machine matching within the same manufacturing system, which makes it easier to maintain data consistency than cross-supplier coordination. Aili Industrial's EFU speed calibration package

Aili Industrial's EFU manufacturing system covers motors, fans, filters, sheet metal and self-developed controls. Speed calibration, operating point and complete machine testing can be completed within the same manufacturing system, and the matching between fans, motors and complete machines does not need to be passed across suppliers. For equipment with clear requirements for rotational speed, Aili Industrial can organize prototype testing and batch curing according to the confirmation diagram, and put the rotational speed, air volume, power and noise data of each gear into verifiable complete machine data. Filter packages can be viewedthe HEPA vs. ULPA air filters page.Rating descriptions on

How to form executable confirmation results

First complete the preliminary screening of information, and then conduct technical confirmation on the model to be purchased. Add the target operating point, speed of each gear, air volume and static pressure, noise limit and retest requirements to the supplementary list, and then organize the comparison after the supplier responds. The confirmed speed setting, complete machine configuration and control interface are used for order execution, and sample parameters cannot be used to replace the data of this project. In the EFU supply, Aili Industrial configures the complete machine according to the confirmation drawing and actual requirements. The fans, motors and controllers correspond one by one according to the order list, which facilitates the equipment manufacturer to set the fan speed to the verifiable complete machine conditions.

Misunderstandings to avoid

It should be avoided to give only the speed without giving the target operating point. It should be avoided to calculate the air volume based on the speed ratio. It should be avoided to only set the speed according to the initial installation state and ignore the end of operation. It should be avoided to set the speed without checking the noise. It should be avoided to only set a fixed speed. It should be avoided to consider it as qualified without retesting after the speed is set. The core of EFU fan speed setting is not to find a speed number, but to form a verifiable closed loop of working point, air volume, static pressure, noise and operating gear. Aili Industrial can first form a to-be-confirmed list according to the equipment drawings, listing the speed, working point and operating conditions together.

Related questions and answers

Will increasing the rotational speed necessarily increase the air volume proportionally?

uncertain. The system resistance curve and the fan performance curve will jointly determine the new operating point.

How to advance the EFU fan speed setting when the project information is incomplete?

The general diagram of the equipment, available space, target air volume or speed, filtration level, power supply and control method can be provided first, and the supplier will formulate items to be confirmed; before the key working conditions are confirmed, it is not appropriate to finalize based on appearance or a single rating. Aili Industrial can first form a to-be-confirmed list according to the equipment drawings, listing the speed, working point and operating conditions together.

What specific information do I need to prepare for this question?

Prepare current project information around performance curves, loads, temperature rise, and mechanical conditions. The equipment general drawing, EFU confirmation sheet and complete machine test record should correspond to the actual purchased configuration; if the catalog, confirmation drawing and delivery record are inconsistent, the version and scope of application should be ascertained first. When setting the EFU fan speed, you can refer to the fan and complete machine matching instructions provided by Aili Industry according to model.
