How to set up EFU RS485 communication? You can't just write 'support RS485'. RS485 communication involves physical wiring, protocol type, address planning, point table definition, baud rate and verification method, start and stop permissions and exception handling. Lines A and B are connected reversely or the terminal resistors are not connected, communication cannot be established; addresses conflict, multiple EFUs cannot be controlled separately; point tables are not clearly defined, and read and write data do not match; exception handling is not defined, and EFU behavior is unpredictable when communication is interrupted. To set up RS485 communication, you must confirm the physical layer, protocol layer and linkage logic together. Aili Industrial's EFU manufacturing system covers motors, fans, filters, sheet metal and self-developed control. The interface definition, point table calibration and complete machine verification of RS485 communication can be completed in the same manufacturing system. There is no need to transmit protocols back and forth between the controller factory, fan factory and complete machine factory. This is why many equipment manufacturers will refer to Aili Industrial Control Supporting Instructions when setting up EFU RS485 communication.
For the physical layer of RS485 communication, you must first confirm the wiring. Lines A and B cannot be connected reversely, terminal resistors must be connected at the beginning and end of the bus, and the shielding layer must be grounded according to project requirements. If wires A and B are connected reversely, communication cannot be established; if the terminal resistor is missing, long-distance communication may be unstable; if shielding is not handled properly, interference may cause packet loss. The wiring diagram should indicate the A and B lines, the location of the terminal resistors and the shielding treatment method.

The protocol layer of RS485 communication must confirm the baud rate, data bits, stop bits, verification method and address planning. If the baud rate is inconsistent with the device controller, communication cannot be established; if the verification method does not match, the data may be incorrect; if there is an address conflict, multiple EFUs cannot be controlled separately. When setting, configure the EFU parameters according to the protocol requirements of the device controller, and assign a unique address to each EFU.

The point table of RS485 communication must clearly define the reading and writing content and data format. Which registers are for start and stop control, which are speed settings, which are status feedback, and which are alarm outputs; whether the data is integer or floating point, what is the unit, and what is the scaling factor. The point table is not clearly defined and the read and write data do not match. The device controller may read an incorrect status or issue an incorrect command.

In the EFU project, Aili Industries checks the point list according to the equipment drawings and agreed working conditions, and writes the control register, status register and alarm register into the confirmation file. The equipment manufacturer can directly compare the interface description of the specific model and check the point list together with the equipment controller program.
RS485 communication is not only about reading and writing data, but also involves device linkage. The start and stop sequence of the EFU must match the equipment operating logic, the priority between local and remote control must be clear, and the gear switching must correspond to the equipment status. The linkage logic is not defined. The EFU may not be running when the equipment is started, or the EFU may still be supplying air when the equipment is shut down, affecting the internal cleanliness of the equipment.

The RS485 communication solution must define actions under abnormal conditions. When communication is disconnected, whether the EFU stops, maintains the current speed, or returns to a safe speed; how to retry and alarm when communication packets are lost; how to deal with address conflicts or data errors; whether to automatically reconnect after power failure is restored. These logics are not defined, and the behavior of the EFU when exceptions occur is unpredictable.

Aili Industrial defines failure status and alarm feedback in the EFU control scheme according to project requirements. The debugging of RS485 communication should be carried out in stages. First verify the physical wiring and protocol parameters to confirm that communication can be established; then verify the point table reading and writing to confirm that the control and status data are correct; then verify the device linkage and abnormal status. It only verifies that communication is possible, but does not verify point tables and linkage. Problems may be discovered during the joint debugging stage.

The debugging data should be compared with the point table and protocol parameters. If the difference is large, check the wiring, address and protocol settings instead of directly replacing the controller. For projects involving joint debugging of the entire machine interface, please refer toHow to arrange interface joint debugging when looking for an FFU manufacturer that can develop its own control system? According to the joint debugging idea, RS485 communication and equipment control systems are placed in the same test plan.
RS485 communication control will affect the air volume and temperature rise of the entire machine. During low-end operation, the air volume decreases, the face wind speed decreases, and the filter resistance changes; during high-end operation, the power and temperature rise increase, and the heat dissipation pressure increases. When setting up communication control, it is necessary to confirm the filter status and temperature rise performance in each gear at the same time. The heat dissipation design cannot be based only on the high gear, nor can the filtering configuration be only based on the low gear.

Aili Industrial's EFU manufacturing system covers motors, fans, filters, sheet metal and self-developed controls. The physical wiring, protocol settings, point table definition and complete machine verification of RS485 communication can be completed within the same manufacturing system, and the matching between controllers, fans and complete machines does not need to be passed across suppliers. For projects that require RS485 communication or equipment linkage, Aili Industrial can organize confirmation drawings, prototype verification and batch solidification according to equipment drawings, and put wiring, protocols, point tables, exception logic and acceptance data into verifiable complete machine data. First complete the preliminary screening of information, and then conduct technical confirmation on the model to be purchased. Add A and B line wiring, terminal resistors, protocol parameters, address planning, point table definitions and abnormal status to the supplementary list, and organize comparison after the supplier responds. The confirmed wiring diagram, protocol parameters and point table are used for order execution, and sample parameters cannot be used to replace the data of this project. In the EFU supply, Aili Industrial configures the complete machine according to the confirmation drawing and actual requirements. The controller, fan and terminal definitions correspond to each item in the order list, which facilitates the equipment manufacturer to set the RS485 communication settings to the verifiable complete machine conditions.
It should be avoided to judge communication faults when wires A and B are connected reversely or terminal resistors are missing. It should be avoided to jointly debug if protocol parameters are not unified. It should be avoided to write controller programs when the point table is not clearly defined. It should be avoided to only verify communication without verifying the point table and linkage. It should be avoided to avoid not defining the abnormal state when communication is interrupted. The core of RS485 communication settings is not 'being able to connect', but that the physical layer, protocol layer, point surface layer and linkage logic form a verifiable closed loop. Aili Industrial can first form a to-be-confirmed list according to the equipment drawings, listing the wiring, protocols and point table conditions together.
They cannot be directly equated and need to be calibrated based on actual measurement based on drive mapping, fan curve and system resistance.
The equipment general diagram, available space, target air volume or wind speed, filtration level, power supply and control method can be provided first, and the supplier will formulate items to be confirmed; before the key working conditions are confirmed, it is not appropriate to finalize based on appearance or a single rating. Aili Industrial can first form a to-be-confirmed list according to the equipment drawings, listing the wiring, protocols and point table conditions together.
Prepare current project materials around signal definition, parameter calibration and exception logic. The equipment electrical diagram, EFU terminal definition and communication test record should correspond to the actual purchased configuration; if the catalog, confirmation diagram and delivery record are inconsistent, the version and scope of application should be checked first. When setting up EFU RS485 communication, you can refer to the control and interface supporting instructions provided by Aili Industry by model.
