How to distinguish between purification host and on-site supporting projects in budget estimation?

The most common problem with the clean project budget is the unclear boundary between the host computer and on-site supporting projects. Some projects are estimated only based on equipment prices, ignoring the costs of enclosure, air duct, power distribution, installation and testing; some projects double-count engineering costs, resulting in inflated budgets.

Listing the host computer and supporting projects separately and then summarizing them can reduce omissions and duplication. The following will start from the aspects of host scope, on-site engineering, test acceptance and change management.

Confirm the host delivery scope first

The purification host includes FFU, EFU, air shower, high-efficiency air supply outlet and other equipment. The budget should first clarify the scope of hosting delivery:

  • Equipment body and model;

  • filters and controls;

  • Install accessories and structural components;

  • Factory testing and information;

  • Packaging and shipping.

Whether filters and controllers are included in the host quotation directly affects the budget. To check the quotation range, please refer to Which items need to be listed separately in the quotation of clean equipment? , first sort out the delivery content.

Site Envelope and Structural Engineering

On-site supporting works include enclosure structure and support installation:

  • Partition walls, suspended ceilings, doors and windows;

  • Ceiling support and reinforcement;

  • Equipment supports and foundations;

  • Sealing and edge finishing.

These projects are related to equipment installation, but are not necessarily included in the host quotation. For ceiling matching and support requirements, please refer to How does the FFU appearance size match the ceiling module? , for installation space considerations, please refer to What later expenses will be increased due to insufficient maintenance channels?。

Duct and return air systems

If the project involves air ducts and return air systems, separate items should be included:

  • Supply and return ducts;

  • Static plenum and connections;

  • dampers and regulators;

  • Insulation, sound attenuation and supports.

The quantity and cost of air duct work are related to the site layout and cannot be estimated uniformly in proportion to the equipment price. For calculation of air volume and system conditions, please refer to How to convert the clean area area into air supply demand?。

Distribution and control wiring

Power distribution and control wiring are often overlooked engineering items:

  • Distribution boxes and circuits;

  • cables and trays;

  • control cables and interfaces;

  • Grounded and anti-static connections.

The number of devices and operating modes affect distribution capacity. To determine the control method, please refer to FFU group control system , understand the wiring requirements of partition control.

Installation and commissioning services

Installation and commissioning are within the scope of services and should be specified in the budget:

  • Equipment installation and positioning;

  • Duct and electrical connections;

  • System debugging and operation confirmation;

  • Training and data submission.

The division of installation responsibilities and costs should be confirmed at the budget stage. For requirements on acceptance preparation, please refer to What preparations need to be completed before clean room acceptance?。

Testing and acceptance fees

Testing and acceptance may involve third-party testing and should be listed separately:

  • Air volume and wind speed testing;

  • Filter leak detection;

  • Particle concentration test;

  • Differential pressure and airflow pattern testing;

  • Test reports and information.

Testing scope and costs are related to project requirements. For the difference in test conditions, please refer to What are the differences between factory testing and on-site acceptance?。

Additional work volume for renovation projects

Old workshop conversion projects may involve additional works:

  • demolition and cleanup;

  • Temporary isolation and temporary air supply;

  • Structural reinforcement;

  • Suspension of production and phased construction.

These engineering quantities are related to site conditions and cannot be estimated uniformly. For current status inspection before renovation, please refer to What should be checked first when upgrading the cleanliness of an old workshop?。

Change management and budget adjustments

The budget should allow room for change and specify:

  • Change confirmation process;

  • The impact of changes on cost and schedule;

  • Maintenance of change records;

  • Basis for budget adjustment.

Version management helps control budget deviations. For condition confirmation of modular expansion, please refer to What are the expansion conditions for using independent modules in clean systems?。

Project judgment example

The budget for a certain project is estimated based on the host price, excluding air ducts and power distribution. During the construction phase, it was discovered that additional project costs would be required. Adjustment method: List the main engine and on-site projects separately, and re-estimate the budget.

Another project lists host, enclosure, duct, power distribution and testing costs separately during the budget phase. Costs during the construction phase were kept within budget, and changes were well documented.

These two situations illustrate that the budget should distinguish between the main engine and on-site supporting projects, and then summarize them after listing them separately.
