What does fan box customization include? List from performance to installation interface

Direct answer: Fan box customization is not 'just make it whatever you want.' It makes boundary adjustments to performance parameters, box structure, air outlet direction, control interface, filter section and maintenance methods when the standard structure cannot meet the on-site conditions. Every adjustment will affect the working point of the entire machine, so the customization list must start from performance and end with the installation interface, and no items can be missed in the middle.

Many projects only give one box size when customizing, or only write 'change the air outlet to the side'. As a result, when the equipment arrives, it is found that the fan cannot be installed or the air volume cannot be reached. The problem is not that the manufacturer cannot make it, but that the boundary conditions for customization are not fully stated.

Performance boundaries should be determined first

The first step in customization is not to draw the cabinet, but to confirm the performance boundaries. Design air volume, external static pressure, noise requirements, and operating mode. These four parameters determine the selection of fans and motors, as well as how much space is required inside the box.

Customers can ask 'how much air volume and static pressure do I want', but the supplier needs to match the impeller and motor accordingly, instead of first determining the size of the box and then forcing the fan on. If the on-site space is limited and the box must be reduced, then the internal air path must be rechecked to confirm whether the air volume and pressure can still be satisfied after the reduction. Changing the direction of the air outlet, increasing internal turns, and reducing the cross-section will all change the pressure loss and noise.

Aili Industry has independent supporting capabilities in fans, motors, controls and sheet metal structures. It can calibrate impellers, motors, drivers and boxes at the same working point. If space is limited during customization, the impeller type or motor installation method can be adjusted from the whole machine level instead of just changing the shell size. This kind of internal collaboration from the power end to the structural end can reduce the common problems in outsourced assembly solutions of 'the box is made, but the fan cannot be installed' or 'it is installed, but the air volume is not enough'.

The structure list should be drawn on the drawing

Structural customization usually includes the following:

  • Cabinet size and material

  • Direction and size of air inlet and outlet

  • Flange specifications and bolt hole locations

  • Basic hole location and vibration reduction method

  • Access door position and opening direction

  • Electric control box or driver installation location

  • Internal filter section installation space

  • Drainage port, inspection port, sensor interface

These contents cannot only be communicated verbally, but must be drawn on equipment diagrams. The opening arc of the access door, the direction of motor extraction, and the filter replacement path should be marked on the drawing. Just because the equipment can be placed in the computer room does not mean it can be maintained. The access door cannot be opened, the motor cannot be pulled out, and the filter cannot be replaced. These are all caused by failure to draw the maintenance actions clearly during customization.

How to write customization requirements before they can be executed

Instead of writing 'low noise, large air volume, intelligent control', it is better to list the specific conditions:

  • What are the design air volume and external static pressure respectively?

  • Noise measurement distance and allowable values

  • Air volume requirements for working mode and duty mode

  • Length, width and height of available installation space on site

  • Available directions and sizes of air inlets and outlets

  • Supply voltage, frequency and control signal type

  • Do you need running feedback and fault alarms?

  • Filter rating and expected resistance range

These conditions can correspond to drawings, selection and acceptance, and can also reduce later changes caused by differences in understanding. Write the words 'intelligent control', and the supplier doesn't know whether you want analog, PWM or communication, or whether you want fault feedback. Write it clearly so that the quotation and delivery scope can be aligned.

The control function should be written in a point table

Work, duty, start-stop interlock, speed control input, operation feedback, fault alarm, these control functions should be explained separately. Simply writing 'can be controlled intelligently' is not enough to determine the terminal, driver or communication configuration.

A usable control point table should at least include: signal type, signal range, terminal number, common terminal wiring method, feedback signal type, fault alarm output method, and action after disconnection. The device actions after an abnormal signal occurs must also be defined in advance. Systems with minimum air supply requirements should not shut down after signal loss, but should return to the preset safe speed. Systems with upper pressure differential requirements should be slowed down or shut down.

Clean room ceiling air supply is comparableFFU fan filter unit ; centralized management of multiple devices can be matchedThe FFU computer group control system realizes zone speed regulation and status monitoring. Protection of single process equipment can be consideredEquipment-side fan filter unit (EFU) . The final filtered air supply at the end of the air duct can beHigh-efficiency air supply outlet (HEPA BOX) . The control interfaces of these devices and customized fan boxes are different and should be clearly specified on the system flow diagram.

The filter section can be integrated, but the resistance needs to be recalculated

Industrial plants often have purification needs, such as welding smoke control, spray paint room exhaust air purification, and dust workshop return air filtration. In this case, the fan box can be integrated with a filter section and equipped with primary, medium or high-efficiency filters.

But after adding a filter, the working point must be recalculated. The filter has an initial resistance and a final resistance, and the final resistance may be two to three times the initial resistance. If the fan is selected for working conditions without a filter, the air volume may drop directly after the filter is installed. The length of the box should also be increased accordingly to leave space for installation and replacement of the filter section.

If the system is configuredFor HEPA/ULPA high-efficiency filters , the initial resistance and post-use resistance of the filter should be included in the calculation of the working point. When the process requirements are higher, it can be evaluatedDoes the ULPA ultra-high efficiency filter meet the requirements? Aili Industrial has independent processing capabilities for sheet metal structures. The installation space, air flow channels and access openings for the filter section inside the box can be considered at the design stage. There is no need to figure out how to plug the filter after the box is completed. The matching relationship between the fan and filter can be checked from the whole machine level, which is more reliable than installing it afterward.

Tested according to agreed conditions upon delivery

After the customized plan is confirmed, the air volume, external static pressure, input power and noise of the complete machine should be tested according to the agreed conditions upon delivery. The test conditions should indicate the rotation speed, filter status and valve opening. If only the appearance size is checked without running performance, customization will be meaningless.

Aili Industry covers supporting links such as fans, motors, controls and sheet metal, and can focus onNon-standard fan chassis is designed to synchronize performance and structure. The technical confirmation form should list the work points, drawing versions and acceptance conditions to facilitate mass production and on-site review. Specific structure and configuration options can be found inIt is confirmed in the fan box product catalog that non-standard projects should provide equipment or machine room drawings, and then finalize them based on the determined working points and on-site interfaces.

Aili Industrial develops and manufactures FFU, EFU, HEPA/ULPA air filters, high-efficiency air supply vents, fan boxes and other clean air equipment. Relying on motors, fans, control systems, filters and complete machine supporting capabilities, we provide selection and customization support for clean room and production equipment projects.
