Can the fan box structure be customized? When the air outlet changes direction, resistance must be recalculated

The structure of the fan box can be customized. Insufficient space on site, special direction of the air duct, and limited access direction. These situations can be solved by adjusting the size of the box, the direction of the air outlet, and the position of the access door. But structural customization is not as simple as 'changing the shell'. The air outlet is changed from the end face to the side, and the way the air flows into the impeller changes; the box body is reduced, and the internal channel becomes narrower; the access door changes direction, and the support structure needs to be adjusted accordingly. These changes will affect the air duct pressure loss, noise and maintenance space. The performance of the entire machine must be rechecked, rather than just confirming whether the external dimensions can be installed.

Structural adjustment is not just about changing the shell

The box of the fan box is not just a cover surrounding the fan. It guides the airflow from the air inlet into the impeller and then out from the air outlet. Turns, cross-sectional changes, supports and guide structures inside the box will all affect the uniformity of airflow and pressure loss.

If the air inlet is moved from the end face to the side, the direction of the airflow entering the impeller will change, which may cause bias flow and vortex, and the fan performance will decrease. By reducing the outlet cross-section, the outlet wind speed increases, the dynamic pressure increases, and the external static pressure may not be enough. By flattening the box, the internal channels become narrower, the airflow speed increases, and friction loss increases. These problems are not visible in appearance, but will be reflected in air volume, static pressure and noise.

Therefore, the first step in structural customization is to determine which changes will affect the air path and which ones are just adjustments to the appearance and installation interface. Any change in the airflow inlet and outlet mode, internal channel cross-section, or impeller air inlet conditions requires rechecking the performance of the entire machine.

One change may affect multiple functions

This situation is often encountered at project sites: the computer room space is smaller than expected and the box must be compressed. After compression, the air volume decreased, the noise increased, and the motor load also changed. The reason is not the fan itself, but the air path inside the box has been changed.

The same goes for changing the direction of the wind. By changing the air outlet from the top to the side, the air duct can be easily connected, but there is an extra turn inside the box, which increases local resistance. If the wind speed distribution is uneven after the air outlet is changed, it will also affect the stability of the terminal air volume distribution.

Changing the direction of the access door seems to be a purely structural issue, but the position of the door will affect the arrangement of the internal supports of the box. If the support blocks the air flow channel, it will also increase local losses. Therefore, the structural design must consider strength, sealing, air path and maintenance space at the same time, and cannot just focus on one item.

The direction of maintenance is often more critical than the appearance

Just because the equipment can enter the computer room does not mean that it can be maintained later. This sentence is especially important when it comes to structural customization.

The box can be made smaller according to the on-site space, but the access door must be able to be opened to a sufficient angle. The motor can be inserted into the box, but there must be straight space in the direction of extraction. The filter can be installed in the box, but the replacement path cannot be blocked by air ducts or structural parts. For suspended ceilings and narrow mezzanines, the transportation and hoisting paths must also be checked. The equipment can be transported to the door, but not necessarily to the installation location.

On the structural drawings, the opening arc of the access door, the direction in which components are drawn out, and the operating positions of personnel should be marked. The locations of beams, columns, bridges, water pipes, fire protection facilities and other equipment are then superimposed. Some projects look fine on the drawings, but during actual construction the bridge is installed first and the access door is blocked. Changing the structure at that time will be much more expensive than making adjustments at the drawing stage.

Drawing confirmation forms delivery boundary

The most common problem with structural customization is the inconsistency between verbal communication and drawings. The scene said 'move the air outlet a little to the left', but the manufacturer understood it to mean 'move the air outlet to the side'. After making it, it was discovered that the direction was wrong.

The delivery boundary of structural customization should be reflected in the drawings: basic hole position, flange size, wind direction arrow, access door position, sealing method, material and plate thickness. After the drawing is confirmed, production and procurement will be carried out according to the same version of the drawing. If the position of the air duct is changed on site, the box should not be temporarily cut or turned blindly, and the interface and wind resistance should be re-examined.

Aili Industrial has independent supporting capabilities in fans, motors, controls and sheet metal structures. When the structure is changed, the air path, supports and interfaces can be rechecked from the whole machine level instead of just changing the shell size. Sheet metal processing, fan matching and control configuration are coordinated within the same system, and the impact of structural changes on performance can be evaluated before manufacturing, reducing the risk of problems being discovered only after the equipment arrives on site.

Performance and structure must be verified simultaneously

After the structural plan is confirmed, the performance of the complete machine still needs to be verified according to the target working conditions. Air volume, external static pressure, input power and noise should all be rechecked after structural changes instead of using the test data of the standard model.

System end configurationFor HEPA/ULPA high-efficiency filters , after structural changes, it is necessary to confirm whether the installation space and replacement path of the filter section are still reasonable. When the process requirements are higher, it can be evaluatedDoes the ULPA ultra-high efficiency filter meet the requirements?

The structural boundaries of these devices and the custom-made fan box are different and should be clearly defined separately on the system flow diagram.

Specific structure and configuration options can be found inIt is confirmed in the fan box product catalog that non-standard projects should provide equipment or machine room drawings, and then finalize them based on the determined working points and on-site interfaces.
