Chemical filter media may interact with moisture in the air, but this cannot be used to assume that it can stably regulate downstream humidity. The actual impact depends on the medium, environment and operation stage. Humidity control should still be borne by the corresponding air treatment solution. The humidity changes before and after the filter section may not all come from the filter material.
When chemical filter materials come into contact with the air, there are roughly three types of interactions with moisture: physical hygroscopicity , in which water molecules are adsorbed on the surface or pores of the medium and tend to stabilize after reaching equilibrium; capillary condensation , in which condensation occurs in the pores under high humidity conditions, changing the mass transfer conditions of the medium; chemical effects , in which some reactive media are sensitive to humidity, and moisture may participate in or interfere with the target reaction. These three forms behave differently in different media, some are obvious, and some are negligible. To determine whether a product will affect downstream humidity, it needs to correspond to the media type and actual environment. It cannot be generally inferred from the general category of 'chemical filter material'.
The same type of filter material may have completely different effects on downstream humidity during dry season and rainy season, during stable operation and start-up and stop stages. When the relative humidity of the inlet air is high, the wind speed in the filter section is low, and the media layer is thick, the effects of moisture absorption or condensation are more likely to be observed; when the inlet is dry and the wind speed is high, this effect is usually smaller. Due to the large fluctuations in temperature and humidity during the start-up and stop stages, the difference between the front and rear filter sections may be more obvious. When evaluating, the temperature and humidity before and after the filter section should be measured under actual operating conditions, rather than just looking at a single reading or sample data.
The humidity readings before and after the filter section are different, and the reason may not be the filter material itself. The temperature rise of the fan will reduce the relative humidity, air leakage from the box will bring in outside air, adjustment fluctuations of the surface cooler or humidification section, differences in the location of the measuring points and the response time of the instrument will all cause reading deviations. Relative humidity also changes with temperature. Even if the temperature difference before and after the filter section is only one or two degrees, there may be a difference of several percentage points when converted into relative humidity. Therefore, when you see changes in humidity, you should first rule out factors such as temperature, air leakage, and instrumentation, and then determine whether it is related to the medium. Regarding the impact of condensation water in the air conditioning box, please refer toHow to prevent condensed water from contacting the filter material in the chemical filtration section of the air-conditioning box?。
The chemical filter section is not a dehumidification or humidification device and should not be responsible for downstream humidity adjustment tasks. If the project has clear requirements for downstream humidity, it should be guaranteed by the surface cooling section, humidification section or special dehumidification equipment. The location and media selection of the chemical filter section should ensure that it works within the applicable humidity range. On the other hand, if you give up chemical filtration because you are worried that the filter material will affect the humidity, it is not necessary - in most scenarios, the impact of the chemical filter section on the downstream humidity is within the acceptable range. The key is to confirm the applicable conditions of the media when selecting. Regarding the division of labor between chemical filtration and dehumidification equipment, please refer toCan chemical filters replace dehumidification equipment?。
Regarding the impact of filter materials on downstream humidity, we usually recommend that customers measure the temperature and humidity before and after the filter section under actual operating conditions, and record the fan status and box air leakage at the same time, and then determine the source of the difference. Aili Industry can provide selection packages for box-type, flat-plate and V-type chemical filtration products. For box-type MAU packages, please refer toMAU box type chemical filter , product series can be viewedChemical filter product range . The V-shaped structure provides a larger filtration area and lower surface velocity in the same box space, helping to reduce the risk of local condensation under high-humidity conditions. Equipment-side applications can adopt the form of chemical filtration FFU, integrating chemical adsorption layer and HEPA/ULPA particle filtration. The manufacturing end covers motors, fans, control systems, sheet metal and complete machine assembly. The position of the filter section, box sealing and air conditioning dehumidification process can be checked together during the matching stage. The specific gas effect, humidity applicable conditions and replacement cycle still need to be verified based on the corresponding configuration data and on-site working conditions. The actual results are subject to on-site leak detection and gas detection results.
Will chemical filters dry out the air downstream?
After some media absorb moisture, the downstream relative humidity may slightly decrease, but the magnitude is usually limited and affected by inlet conditions. It cannot be used as a means of dehumidification.
What is the normal humidity difference before and after the filter section?
There is no uniform value. It should be judged based on the actual temperature, humidity, wind speed and measurement method. If the difference is obvious, the temperature, air leakage and instrument factors should be checked first.
Can Aili Industrial help check the humidity adaptability of the filter section?
The location and applicable conditions of the filter section can be checked based on the media type, inlet temperature and humidity, and operating stage. The specific plan needs to be confirmed based on product data and on-site working conditions.
