How to check chemical filter manufacturer selection recommendations with project requirements?

When receiving the supplier's selection suggestions, many people will first look at the model and price and think they can use it. But the selection of chemical filters depends on more than just the model.

The products recommended by manufacturers are based on their understanding of the working conditions. If the project requirements are not fully communicated, or if the manufacturer recommends based on default conditions, there may be a discrepancy between the recommendations and the actual requirements. The purpose of verification is to match the manufacturer's input assumptions with the real conditions of the project one by one to confirm that the plan is established.

Check suggested input assumptions

Selection recommendations usually imply some prerequisites.

What is the target gas? Which gas is being addressed in the recommendation? Is it acidic, alkaline or organic vapor? If the project has multiple contaminant components, do the recommendations cover them all? For specific principles, please refer to Discussion on why chemical filters should be selected according to the target gas .

What is the concentration range? Is the inlet concentration a regular level or a high concentration? Is it stable or volatile? Concentration affects media usage and replacement intervals. If concentration assumptions are not stated in the recommendations, confirmation needs to be made with the manufacturer.

Air volume and temperature and humidity conditions. What air volume, temperature and humidity are the recommendations based on? If the actual operating conditions are outside the assumed range, the processing capacity and life of the filter media may be different. For specific environmental impacts, please refer to Discussion of how long chemical filters last .

Whether the unknown item is specified. If project conditions are incomplete, are items to be confirmed listed in the proposal? Or recommend directly according to the default conditions? Clarifying items to be confirmed is more reliable than vague recommendations. Please refer to the specific inquiry parameters. Discussion of what parameters need to be provided for a chemical filter inquiry .

Compare models and reports

The recommended models need to correspond to corresponding performance data.

Whether the report is specific to this model. The samples, media, dimensions and test conditions on the test report should correspond to the recommended products. Data from other models cannot directly prove the applicability of this solution. For specific reporting requirements, please refer to Discussion of why chemical filter performance reports list specific target gases .

Test whether the conditions match. Are the air volume, concentration, temperature and humidity conditions in the report close to the project conditions? When the difference is large, the reference value of the data is limited. For specific differences, please refer to Discussion of the difference between initial efficiency and lifetime efficiency of chemical filters .

Capacity and life data. High initial efficiency does not mean long life. Are capacity or penetration data provided in the recommendations to facilitate estimation of replacement intervals? For specific life assessment, please refer to Discussion of how long chemical filters last .

Don’t substitute brand experience for data. The manufacturer may say 'We have done similar projects', but similarity does not mean the same. Depending on the working conditions, the plan may need to be adjusted. For specific selection principles, please refer to Discussion on why chemical filters should be selected according to the target gas .

Confirm system and maintenance boundaries

Selection recommendations are not just about products, but also about system coordination.

Resistance and fan margin. What is the recommended filter section resistance? Can the original fan withstand it? It needs to be calculated based on actual working points. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of how much the added resistance of the chemical filter will increase the fan's electricity consumption .

Installation space and interfaces. Do the proposed product dimensions, sealing methods, and interface forms match the on-site installation frame? For specific matching methods, please refer to Discussion of how chemical filter sizes match existing filter frames .

Replace aisles and operating spaces. Is it feasible to replace the filter material? When the space on the equipment end is tight, the maintenance access must be confirmed in advance. For specific disassembly and assembly paths, please refer to Discussion of what dimensions should be covered in chemical filtration retrofit field measurements .

Spare parts and maintenance methods. Does the recommendation include spare filter media? Do replacement cycles and maintenance operations meet project requirements? For specific management methods, please refer to Discussion on why the chemical filter replacement cycle cannot be calculated as half a year .

Arrangements when a trial is required

If conditions permit, a trial can verify the selection recommendations.

Agree on goals and conditions in advance. Before the trial, clarify the target gas, outlet requirements, working conditions and detection methods. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of how to set clear success conditions for chemical filter trials .

Baseline data is retained. Record the inlet and outlet concentration, air volume and pressure difference before and after the trial for easy comparison. For specific sampling methods, please refer to Discussion of sampling points for chemical filter performance verification .

Trial results are used to revise recommendations. If the trial results are different from the manufacturer's recommendations, analyze the reasons and adjust the plan. You cannot ignore the differences and purchase directly in bulk. For specific efficiency calculations, please refer to Discussion on how to calculate the removal efficiency of chemical filters .

Project judgment example

A project received a chemical filter selection suggestion and an activated carbon filter was recommended.

When checking, it was found that the specific composition and concentration range of the target gas were not stated in the recommendations. What the project actually needs to deal with is alkaline gas, and ordinary activated carbon has limited adsorption capacity for alkaline gas. After supplementing the target gas information, the manufacturer adjusted the recommendations and switched to media for alkaline gases.

The proposed configuration for another project differed from the on-site air volume. The manufacturer recommends based on the air volume of a single unit in the sample, but the actual air volume passing through the filter section is higher than the sample value. After rechecking the actual air volume, the filter section size and media configuration were adjusted, and the outlet concentration met the requirements.

These two cases illustrate: When checking selection recommendations, input assumptions, performance data and system conditions must be matched one by one. involving When selecting a chemical filter product series , it is recommended to provide the target gas, working conditions and acceptance requirements to the supplier for verification.
