The factory is close to the pollution source. How to match the relocation of the air inlet with chemical filtration?

When there are industrial emissions, sewage treatment facilities or traffic arteries near the factory, the gaseous pollution introduced by the fresh air often cannot be avoided. There are two common treatment ideas at this time: one is to adjust the position of the air inlet and move the air intake to a relatively clean place; the other is to configure a chemical filter to deal with the incoming pollutants.

The two are not an alternative, but a cooperative relationship. Air inlet relocation reduces the pollution load entering the system, and chemical filtration takes care of the remainder. If you only migrate without processing, there may still be a risk of exceeding the standard; if you only treat without migration, the filter material may be consumed quickly. The specific combination depends on the measured entrance data and system conditions.

Investigate the influence patterns of entrances

To determine whether to relocate the air inlet, first look at how much impact the existing air inlet will have.

Record wind direction and time of day. Emissions from external pollution sources may be intermittent, and the degree of impact may vary when wind direction changes. Recording the inlet concentration at different wind directions and different time periods can determine whether the pollution is a continuous input or an occasional impact. For specific investigation methods, please refer to whether to do air sampling before choosing a chemical filter . Discuss

Identify the main contaminant components. Industrial emissions, sewage facilities, and traffic exhaust have different compositions. Acidic gases, alkaline gases, organic vapors, and sulfides have different treatment methods. Please refer to the specific classification Discussion on why chemical filters should be selected according to target gases .

Compare different candidate locations. If relocation of the air inlet is considered, samples should be taken at the existing location and at the candidate location to compare concentration differences. You cannot judge that migration is effective just by 'being further away'. For specific sampling methods, please refer to Discussion of sampling points for chemical filter performance verification .

A single low reading is not enough to determine migration options. Coverage of representative operating conditions is needed to determine whether the candidate location is truly cleaner.

Check the impact of location changes

Relocation of the air inlet is not just about moving the location, but also affects other aspects of the system.

Pipe length and resistance. After relocation, the fresh air pipeline may become longer and the resistance may increase. It is necessary to calculate whether the fan margin can bear it. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of how much the added resistance of the chemical filter will increase the fan's electricity consumption .

Rainwater protection and maintenance conditions. Is the new location convenient for rain protection, insect protection, and maintenance? These factors affect long-term operation and maintenance.

Whether the new location is near other sources of pollution. Migration may avoid one source of contamination but bring it closer to another. It is necessary to investigate the surrounding environment of the candidate location.

Overall system balance. After the air inlet position is changed, the fresh air volume, exhaust relationship and room pressure difference may need to be rechecked. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of how chemical filter modification can avoid affecting room pressure differential .

Preserve matching filtering and monitoring

After migration, the chemical filtration section is usually still required, but the load may be reduced.

Select the filter material according to the remaining load. After migration, the inlet concentration decreases and the consumption of filter material will slow down, but the target gas still exists. The configuration of the chemical filtration section should be determined based on the actual inlet concentration after migration. Please refer to the specific selection Discussion on why MAU needs to configure chemical filtration section .

Keep sampling points. It is recommended to set up sampling ports before and after the new air outlet and filter section after migration to facilitate follow-up tracking. Monitoring cannot be stopped just because it has been migrated. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of what items should be checked during daily inspection of chemical filters .

New entry conditions need to be revalidated. After migration, the inlet concentration, filter section outlet concentration and system air volume should be re-tested to confirm that the requirements are met. The replacement cycle before the migration cannot be directly used. For specific life assessment, please refer to Discussion of how long chemical filters last .

When migration and filtration are combined, the replacement cycle may be extended. If the migration is effective, the rate of filter material consumption is reduced and maintenance costs may be reduced. This effect needs to be confirmed through actual operating data.

Project judgment example

The fresh air inlet of a factory building is close to a main traffic road, and high concentrations of nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons were detected at the inlet. The preliminary plan considers moving the air inlet to the other side of the factory building.

After sampling at the candidate location, it was found that the concentration at the new location was indeed lower, but still within the detectable range. At the same time, after the migration, the fresh air pipeline was extended by about 20 meters and the resistance increased.

Adjustment plan: relocate the air inlet to reduce external input load; at the same time, retain a chemical filter section in the fresh air unit to process remaining pollutants. After migration, re-measure the inlet concentration to confirm the decrease; the outlet concentration of the filter section meets the target. The filter replacement cycle is re-evaluated based on the new inlet concentration.

This case illustrates that air inlet migration and chemical filtration can be used together. The migration reduces the load, and the filtration ensures that the outlet reaches the standard. involving When selecting chemical filter product series , it is recommended to provide the inlet detection data, candidate location information and system conditions to the supplier for verification.
