Can chemical filters be installed step by step in different areas?

It can be assessed, but phased implementation does not mean cutting off the area completely.

In the transformation project, the entire plant is installed with a chemical filtration section at once, resulting in a large production shutdown, concentrated investment, and concentrated risks. It seems to be more flexible to gradually install it in different regions: pilot it in one region first, and then promote it after verifying the effect. There is nothing wrong with this idea, but the premise is that the relationship between regions must be clearly understood first.

If each district shares return air, shares fresh air units, and pressure differences affect each other, phased implementation will require additional checks. Changing only one area may change the branch resistance and affect the air volume and pressure difference in adjacent areas. For specific air volume balancing methods, please refer to whether chemical filtration modification requires re-doing the air volume balance . Discuss

First determine the basis for partitioning

For installation by area, the first step is not to select the product, but to confirm how the 'area' is divided.

According to the source of pollution. Which areas are gaseous pollution released? Is the source equipment, material, cleaning process, or external input? Areas with different pollution components and concentrations may have different filtration solutions. For specific investigation methods, please refer to whether to do air sampling before choosing a chemical filter . Discuss

Divided by air supply and return systems. Does each area have independent air supply and return air? If a unit or return air duct is shared, adding a filter section to one area may affect the air volume distribution in other areas. For specific partition logic, please refer to Discussion on how odors in multi-story factory buildings interact with each other and how chemical filtration should be partitioned .

Divided according to pressure difference relationship. There is a pressure gradient between clean areas and non-clean areas and areas with different clean levels. When an area is renovated, pressure differential relationships may change. Please refer to the specific risks Discussion of how chemical filter modification can avoid affecting room pressure differential .

Divided by production independence. Some areas can be shut down independently, and some areas must run continuously. Areas with different production outage windows are suitable for batch transformation. Please refer to the specific time schedule Discussion of how long it will take to shut down chemical filter modifications before they can be implemented .

Only when the basis for partitioning is clear can we know which areas can be changed individually and which areas must be changed together.

Check inter-region correlations

After determining the candidate areas, check the correlation between the areas.

Shared return air. If two areas share a return air system, treated air from one area may enter the other area. By changing only one area, the gas load in another area may change. For specific impacts, please refer to which air handling systems are appropriate for chemical filters to be installed in . Discussion of

Shared fresh air unit. If the fresh air unit supplies air to multiple areas, adding a chemical filtration section to the fresh air section will affect the air volume in all areas. When implementing in phases, it is necessary to confirm whether the fresh air section should be modified first, or whether each area should be treated separately. For specific configuration, please refer to Discussion on why MAU needs to configure chemical filtration section .

Door area and shaft. Doors, transfer windows, tube wells, and shafts between areas may create air connections. Odor or gaseous pollution may spread through these paths, and zone-based filtration cannot completely block it. For specific partitioning methods, please refer to Discussion on how odors in multi-story factory buildings interact with each other and how chemical filtration should be partitioned .

pressure gradient. If the air supply volume in a certain area decreases after renovation, the pressure difference may change, affecting the direction of air flow. When implemented in stages, the pressure difference must be reviewed after each stage is completed. For specific control methods, please refer to Discussion of how chemical filter modification can avoid affecting room pressure differential .

If the relationship is divided into stages before the relationship is clear, there may be a situation where 'the first area is changed, but the second area becomes worse'.

Prioritize areas with clear needs

It will be implemented in phases, starting with areas with the clearest needs.

Highly sensitive workstation. Equipment or workstations that are sensitive to gaseous pollution should be protected first. Such areas usually have clear testing data or process requirements. For specific device configuration, please refer to Discussion on why EFU needs supporting chemical filters .

Areas with significant input of contamination. Areas with obvious external input or internal release can be dealt with first. The effect is easy to observe and can also accumulate experience in subsequent areas. For specific local treatment, please refer to Discussion of what local contamination FFU plus chemical filter can handle .

Independent system area. If a certain area has an independent air supply and exhaust system, the phased renovation will have little impact on other areas, so it is appropriate to do it first. For specific evaluation conditions, please refer to Discussion of what conditions should be evaluated first before adding a chemical filter to an existing clean room .

Prioritization should be based on conservation needs rather than retrofit convenience alone. The areas that are easy to change are not necessarily the areas that need the most change.

Establish verification at each stage

After each stage is completed, it is independently verified.

Gas outlet concentration. Detect the inlet and outlet concentrations according to the target components to confirm the effect of the filtration section. The sampling points should represent the actual status of the area. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion of sampling points for chemical filter performance verification .

Air volume and pressure difference. Measure the air volume and pressure difference in this area and adjacent areas to confirm that there is no obvious shift due to modification. For specific air volume balance, please refer to whether chemical filtration modification requires re-doing the air volume balance . Discuss

Seal inspection. The frame bypass of the newly installed filter section needs to be checked. The existence of bypass will affect the processing effect and may also distort the data judgment in adjacent areas. For specific methods, please refer to Discussion on how to check frame bypass after chemical filter installation .

Document effects, resistance and maintenance needs. Operating data, replacement cycles and maintenance operations at each stage should be recorded. This information is a reference for subsequent zone configuration. For specific inspection methods, please refer to Discussion of what items should be checked during daily inspection of chemical filters .

If the trial is successful in one area, it cannot be directly inferred that the media in all areas is the same. The pollution composition, concentration and working conditions may be different in different areas.

Common risks of incremental installation

Implemented in phases, there are several risks that need to be considered in advance.

Cumulative resistance change. With the addition of filtration sections at each stage, the total resistance of the system gradually increases. If fans are shared, there may be insufficient fan margin in the later stages. For specific accounting methods, please refer to Discussion of how much the added resistance of the chemical filter will increase the fan's electricity usage .

Control parameter changes. After each stage of transformation, the group control system, air valve opening, and fan gear may need to be recalibrated. The parameters before transformation cannot be used.

Maintenance cycles are different. The filter material consumption rate in different areas is different, and the replacement cycle may be different. Maintenance ledgers must be managed separately by region. For specific management methods, please refer to Discussion on why the chemical filter replacement cycle cannot be calculated as half a year .

The range of spare parts has been increased. Phased retrofits may involve filter sections of different types and media. Spare parts management should be based on location to avoid temporary access errors. Please refer to the specific size matching Discussion of how chemical filter sizes match existing filter frames .

Project judgment example

A factory has multiple production areas and plans to add chemical filtration sections in stages.

In the first stage, an area with independent air supply and exhaust and clear sources of pollution was selected. After the transformation, the outlet concentration and air volume are tested to confirm that the effect meets the requirements. The area's resistance, operating data and maintenance cycles were also recorded.

When preparing to remodel the adjacent area in the second stage, it was discovered that the two areas share a section of return air duct. The first phase of renovation changed the return air resistance, and the air volume in adjacent areas decreased slightly. After adjusting the plan, the return air distribution will be checked simultaneously during the second stage of transformation, and the dampers will be adjusted to confirm that the pressure difference and air volume in the two areas return to normal.

This case shows that the gradual installation in different areas can reduce the scope of a single production shutdown, but the air volume, pressure difference and return air correlation between areas need to be checked at each stage. involving When selecting a chemical filter product series , it is recommended to provide the zoning plan, system correlation and detection data to the supplier for verification.
