How does the change in ULPA thickness affect the resistance and fan operating point?

Changes in the thickness of the ULPA filter may affect the filter material layout, effective area and resistance, but the results cannot be predicted based on thickness alone. The fan operating point also depends on the co-variation of the filter element and other system resistances. Thin filter elements do not necessarily have low resistance, and thick filter elements do not necessarily have high resistance. The key depends on the resistance of the specific model and the system matching under the same working conditions. Aili Industry isNon-standard ULPA filter customization and complete machine matching can provide verification support for thickness and working point.

1. First compare the same working conditions

Check the grade, shape, filter material and target air volume to view the specific model curve. The resistance of products with different structures cannot be converted based on thickness ratio only.

Two filters with different thicknesses, even if they have the same efficiency level, may have different pleat density, separation method and effective area. It is easy to draw erroneous conclusions by simply estimating the resistance based on the thickness difference. The relationship between levels and filtering requirements can be found inISO cleanliness level comparison。

2. Evaluate the pressure distribution of the whole machine

Factor the filter element, air duct, pre-filtration and interface losses into the system, and check the fan curve and speed settings. Both the new filter element and the operating status after dust accumulation need to be considered.

The difference in resistance caused by thickness changes should be considered together with the air duct resistance and box resistance. Sometimes the resistance of the filter element only accounts for a part of the total resistance of the system, and the impact of thickness changes will be diluted; sometimes the resistance of the filter element dominates and the impact is obvious. For the verification method of the working point of the EFU machine, please refer toEFU FAQ and technical support。

3. Thickness changes also affect installation

Check the sealing position, tightening stroke, air inlet gap and maintenance space. Confirm the final configuration through sample trial installation and actual air volume measurement.

After the thickness is reduced, the original tightening stroke may no longer match and the sealing compression amount is insufficient; after the thickness is increased, the air inlet gap and replacement space may be insufficient. For the corresponding relationship between installation dimensions and sealing, please refer toHEPA FAQs and Selection Guide。

4. When reducing the thickness to save space, the fan margin must be recalculated

When reducing the thickness of the filter element to save space, the fan margin should be evaluated at the same time. It cannot be assumed that the air supply volume remains unchanged at the original speed.

Thickness changes are often accompanied by changes in filter area, and face wind speed and resistance change accordingly. Aili Industry isWhen customizing non-standard ULPA filters, the target air volume and installation space can be combined to evaluate the impact of thickness adjustment on resistance and cooperate withEFU equipment end fan filter unit orThe FFU fan filter unit checks the working point of the entire machine.

5. Related questions and answers

Does thicker ULPA necessarily have lower resistance?
Not necessarily, the measured resistance and specific structure under the same working conditions should be compared, rather than just looking at the appearance thickness. An increase in thickness may bring about a larger filtration area and may also change the pleat density.

What is the reason for the decrease in air volume after thickness reduction?
It may be that the reduction in filtration area leads to an increase in face air velocity and resistance, or it may be that insufficient sealing compression creates a bypass. It should be checked according to the two lines of resistance and sealing.

Do I need to reselect the fan after the thickness changes?
Not necessarily, but the work points need to be rechecked. The original fan may have insufficient residual pressure at the target air volume. You should confirm whether to adjust the speed compensation or adjust the configuration.
