After the installation of the fan box in an electronics factory was completed, everything was debugged normally. The filter needed to be replaced half a year later, and the maintenance staff found that the access door could only be opened 30 degrees because there was a fire hose less than half a meter behind the door. The motor can be removed, but it cannot be pulled out because it is facing the bridge. In the end, only part of the air duct could be removed to complete the replacement. There is nothing wrong with the equipment itself. The problem is that the clearance was not calculated according to the maintenance actions before installation.
This case illustrates a simple truth: Just because the fan box can be placed in the computer room does not mean it can be maintained. The installation clearance cannot be determined by a general statement such as 'how many meters should be left around'. Instead, each action during maintenance should be broken down and the clearance should be calculated backwards according to the space required for the action.
Aili Industry is discussingWhen installing fan box products , the direction of the access door, component extraction paths, and lifting constraints are usually confirmed during the structural drawing stage to reduce later maintenance difficulties.
Installation space and maintenance space are two concepts. The installation space refers to the minimum space required when the equipment is hoisted into place, and the maintenance space refers to the working space required for daily maintenance, component replacement, and troubleshooting. The former is often smaller than the latter, but is often reserved only for installation space in projects, resulting in difficulties in later maintenance.
Maintenance actions usually include: opening the access door, pulling out the motor or impeller, replacing the filter, disassembling and installing the soft connection of the air duct, operating the electric control box, and checking the vibration damping parts. Each action requires different space and cannot be summarized by a unified number. For example, the door leaf rotation space is required to open the access door, the axial linear space is required to extract the motor, and the filter replacement requires side operating space.
In some projects, in order to save the area of the computer room, the equipment is arranged against the wall. It barely stays in place when installed and works when running, but once the motor or filter needs to be replaced, other equipment or pipes need to be removed. This kind of design is not easy to find in the drawing stage, because only the overall dimensions of the equipment are marked on the drawing, and the space required for maintenance actions is not marked.
The installation clearance of the fan box can be divided into four categories and calculated separately:
Access door opening space. Confirm the door opening direction and opening angle. There should be no pipes, bridges or other equipment in the area swept by the door leaf rotation. Some access doors open up and down and require space above; some open sideways and require space on the sides. After the door leaf is fully opened, personnel still need operating space.
Parts take out space. Confirm what parts need to be extracted, the extraction direction and the extraction length. Motors, impellers, filters, and drives each require different extraction spaces. There should be no obstacles in the direction of extraction, the extraction length should be greater than the length of the component itself, and space should be left for personnel to operate and place components.
Air ducts take over the space. Confirm how much space is required when disassembling and assembling the flexible air duct connection. Soft connections may be aged or damaged during operation and need to be replaced regularly. If the air duct is close to the equipment flange, it will be difficult to disassemble and install the soft joint. The weight of the air duct should not be borne by the fan box, and separate supports and hangers should be provided.
Personnel operating space. Identify where maintenance personnel will need to stand or crouch, as well as access routes for carrying tools and spare parts. The operating surface of the electric control box, the inspection position of the vibration damping parts, and the manual turning position all need to be accessible by personnel.
System end configurationWhen using HEPA/ULPA high-efficiency filters , the replacement path and operating space of the filter should also be considered. Filters need to be replaced regularly during operation, and if they are blocked by air ducts or equipment, subsequent maintenance will be difficult. When the process requirements are higher, it can be evaluatedDoes the ULPA ultra-high efficiency filter meet the requirements?
Superimpose the cabinet and maintenance scope on the machine room diagram, and check the locations of beams, bridges, water pipes, fire-fighting facilities and other equipment. Stacking pictures is not simply based on whether the equipment can fit in the shape, but whether the maintenance action space is occupied.
Focus on checking the following: whether there are pipes or bridges within the opening range of the access door; whether there are beams, columns or other equipment in the direction of component extraction; whether there are obstacles on the hoisting path; whether there is enough standing space for personnel to operate; whether there is operating space for the disassembly and assembly of the air duct soft connections.
Lifting projects should also check the transportation routes and lifting points. Equipment may need to be turned, lifted, or passed through door openings from the unloading point to the installation location. Don’t wait for the crew to arrive only to discover that the turning radius is insufficient or the door opening is too narrow.
It is not appropriate to just write 'reserve space for maintenance around the perimeter'. The opening arc of the access door, the extraction direction of the fan or motor, the operating surface of the electric control box and the disassembly position of the soft connection of the air duct should be marked on the equipment diagram.
For suspended ceiling or mezzanine installations, also indicate access paths for personnel and lifting tools. If space is indeed limited, the direction of the access surface or the form of the box can be adjusted during the structural planning stage instead of waiting for the equipment to arrive on site.
Clean room ceiling air supply is comparableFFU fan filter unit ; centralized management of multiple devices can be matchedFFU computer group control system . Protection of single process equipment can be consideredEquipment-side fan filter unit (EFU) . The final filtered air supply at the end of the air duct can beHigh-efficiency air supply outlet (HEPA BOX) . The installation methods and maintenance requirements of these equipment and fan boxes are different and should be confirmed separately before construction.
The headroom is ultimately determined based on the actual appearance and maintenance methods of the corresponding model. It is not recommended to directly apply the reserved values of other items. Ai Li industrialIf the air outlet direction, box form or inspection surface of the fan box product needs to be adjusted, it should be clearly stated in the structural drawing stage.
Specific structure and configuration options can be found inIt is confirmed in the fan box product catalog that non-standard projects should provide equipment or machine room drawings, and then shape them based on the determined working points and on-site interfaces. Taking more time to check the clearance before installation is more cost-effective than removing and modifying pipes and equipment after installation.
