What are the common product forms of chemical filters?

There are many types of chemical filters, ranging from thin flat plates to deep box types, from V-shaped combinations to cartridge types, and there are also modules directly integrated into the equipment. These forms seem to be different only in appearance, but in actual selection, the structure determines the air volume, media capacity, installation space and maintenance method.

You can’t judge applicability just by looking at the appearance. Just because a thin product can fit into the equipment does not mean that its media capacity can meet the processing target; a box-type product with a large dust holding capacity does not mean that it is suitable for all installation locations. Structural selection should go back to actual needs: what gas to handle, how much air volume, how big the space is, and how to maintain it. For specific selection logic, please refer to Discussion of what chemical filters are and what problems they are mainly used to solve .

Thin structures focus on spatial boundaries

Flat or thin modules are a common type of chemical filter.

It is characterized by its small thickness and is suitable for installation in locations with limited space. Thin solutions may be used inside equipment, in compact filtration sections, or in slots with insufficient reserve depth in retrofit projects. Device-side applications such as FFU supporting chemical filters or equipment internal protection often have clear limits on thickness.

However, reduced thickness affects media capacity. The thin structure can hold a limited number of media, and its processing capacity and service life may be lower than those of deep bed products. When selecting, check the target gas, inlet concentration and expected replacement cycle to confirm whether the thin solution can meet the requirements.

The allowable wind speed and replacement cycle should also be looked at together. The effective area of thin products may be smaller. If the air volume is high, media consumption may be accelerated by increasing the wind speed. Don’t just pursue the convenience of installation and ignore the operating costs.

Box type and V type focus on working points

Deeper structural forms are usually used in situations that require higher processing capabilities.

Box chemical filters have a greater depth and can accommodate more media. It is suitable for projects with higher air volume, higher inlet concentration or longer replacement cycle requirements. This form is commonly used in air conditioning boxes, fresh air units and other locations. For specific configuration, please refer to Description of MAU Box Chemical Filter .

The V-shaped chemical filter utilizes a combination method to arrange a larger filtering area within a limited cross-section. Its structural feature is that it can accommodate more media under the same windward surface size. Suitable for occasions with limited space but large air volume.

The effects of box type and V type should be compared under the same air volume, target gas and conditions. Don't just look at the total amount of media or the overall dimensions. Different structures have different airflow channels, and the actual contact time and resistance performance may also be different. For specific comparison methods, please refer to Discussion on how the resistance of HEPA, glass fiber ULPA and PTFE ULPA compare .

Module structure focuses on maintaining interfaces

How chemical filters are maintained directly affects operating costs and downtime.

Detachable filter element structure. The frame remains and only the inner filter element or media module is replaced. The advantage of this structure is that replacement costs are relatively controllable and maintenance operations are relatively convenient.

Overall one-off construction. The filter and frame are integrated and need to be removed as a whole when replacing. This structure is usually used for small products or situations with high sealing requirements.

Pull-out module. The filter element can be pulled out of the frame, making it ideal for applications where space is limited or quick replacement is required. The pulling direction and maintenance access should be confirmed during the design stage.

Before ordering, check the outer frame, sealing, compression method and the space for removing the old filter element. Although some structures can be installed, they may be blocked by surrounding structures during replacement, making the operation difficult. This is especially important for device-side applications. involving For FFU systems equipped with chemical filters , the interface between the filter section and the unit also needs to be confirmed.

Cartridge type and other forms

In addition to the above, there are also some specific structures.

Cartridge-type chemical filters are usually used in specific air volume ranges. They are compact and relatively easy to replace. The diameter and length of the filter cartridge determine the media filling volume and effective filtration area.

The equipment supporting module is a filter unit customized according to the internal structure of the equipment. Such products often need to be checked with equipment drawings, and the size, interface, and air flow direction may require special design. Device-side applications such as The EFU is equipped with a chemical filter or the ultra-thin EFU is equipped with a chemical filter layer, which may involve this type of customized module.

Different structures have different applicable scenarios, and the advantages and disadvantages cannot be simply compared. The key is whether it can meet the specific needs of the project: gas treatment goals, air volume, space constraints, maintenance conditions.

Project judgment example

In an air-conditioning box renovation project, the original slot depth was shallow, and it was planned to add a chemical filtration section.

The preliminary plan considered a box-type chemical filter, but measurements revealed that the slot depth was insufficient. After switching to a flat-panel solution, it was discovered that the media capacity may not be enough to support the expected replacement cycle.

The final plan is to use a V-shaped structure based on the actual size of the slot and arrange a larger filter area within a limited depth. Before the transformation, the air volume, resistance and target gas treatment requirements were calculated, and the plan was confirmed to be feasible before implementation. The operating data after the modification showed that the outlet concentration and pressure difference were within the expected range.

This case illustrates: Structural selection should be comprehensively judged based on space, capacity and maintenance conditions. You can’t just look at a certain form, and you can’t just pursue a certain aspect. involving When selecting a chemical filter product series , it is recommended to clearly list the actual constraints and then compare the plans.

About Aili Industrial’s structural support

The structural selection of chemical filters depends on the constraints of space, air volume, media capacity and maintenance conditions. These conditions are clarified during the planning stage, and subsequent selection will be more targeted.

Aili Industrial has independent manufacturing capabilities in filters, motors, fans, control systems and sheet metal processing, and can provide chemical filter product series and supporting air supply equipment. For projects with limited space or special structure, the installation size, target gas, air volume and maintenance requirements can be combined to assist in checking the product form. When the filter is matched with MAU, FFU, EFU and other equipment, the interface and resistance can be confirmed uniformly.
