FFU operation noise suddenly becomes louder, which may come from many aspects. Impeller dust accumulation, bearing wear, air path abnormalities, loose installation or changes in filter status may cause noise changes. Different causes have different noise characteristics, and the investigation should be based on the noise type and operating status.
If the noise is continuous low-frequency sound, it may be related to the fan speed or air path. If it is a periodic or frictional sound, it may be related to the impeller or bearing. If vibration is accompanied by noise, it may be related to the installation structure.
Therefore, the increase in noise cannot be directly judged as damage to the fan. Aili Industrial has complete production capabilities in FFU complete machine manufacturing and can cooperate with the project to conduct noise investigation. For the basic structure of the FFU machine, please refer toAili Industrial FFU fan filter unit。
After the impeller accumulates dust, the mass distribution of the blades may be uneven, causing dynamic balance imbalance. Periodic vibration and noise may occur during operation. The more dust that accumulates, the more noticeable the noise and vibration may be.
The inspection contents include: whether there is dust on the impeller; whether the blades are damaged or deformed; whether the impeller is firmly fixed. If dust accumulation is confirmed, the impeller can be cleaned and dynamic balance confirmed. If the impeller is damaged, it needs to be replaced.
After the bearing is worn, friction, periodic noise or abnormal noise may occur during operation. Bearing wear may also be accompanied by increased vibration.
The inspection contents include: whether there is any jamming or abnormal noise in the manually rotated fan; whether the bearings are loose; whether the running sound comes from the motor or bearing position. If the bearings are confirmed to be worn, the fan or motor needs to be replaced.
Abnormal wind paths may also cause noise changes. The air inlet is blocked, the return air is not smooth, the filter is not installed in place, or there are foreign objects on the air outlet surface, which may change the air flow state and generate additional noise.
The inspection includes: whether the air inlet is blocked by bridges, pipelines or structures; whether the filter is installed in place; whether there are foreign objects on the air outlet surface; whether the return air path is smooth.
Regarding the impact of wind inlet blocking, please refer toUnderstand the air inlet conditions by understanding how much air volume will be lost if the FFU inlet air is blocked by the bridge .
Loose mounting structures may amplify noise. Loose FFU fixing bolts, deformed brackets, weak ceiling keels or aging damping components may increase operating noise.
The inspection contents include: whether the FFU is firmly fixed; whether the installation frame or bracket is deformed; whether the vibration pad or shock absorber is aged; whether the box is deformed.
Changes in filter resistance may affect the fan operating point, thereby changing the noise. If the filter is heavily dusted, the fan may run at a higher load and the noise may change. If the filter is not installed properly or is not properly sealed, the airflow may create additional noise.
The inspection contents include: filter pressure difference; filter installation status; whether the filter is damaged or bypassed.
Regarding the judgment of abnormal pressure difference, you can refer toIs it a good thing if the pressure difference of the FFU filter element drops? Learn how to troubleshoot.
It is recommended to check in the following order. First confirm the time and operating status when the noise occurs, for example, whether it is obvious at a specific speed. Check the installation structure and fixing parts again to make sure they are not loose. Then check the filter status and air path to confirm there are no obstructions or abnormalities. Finally, check the impeller and bearings to make sure there is no dust, damage or wear.
The power should be cut off during inspection to ensure safety. If operational inspection is required, safety conditions should be confirmed.
If it is confirmed that the impeller is dusty, it can be cleaned and dynamically balanced. If the bearings are worn, the fan or motor can be replaced. If the installation is loose, the brackets and damping elements can be tightened or replaced. If the filter is abnormal, it can be replaced or reinstalled. If the air path is blocked, the inlet or return air path can be adjusted.
After treatment, the machine should be run again to see if the noise returns to normal.
During the FFU noise investigation stage, it is recommended to confirm the following with the FFU manufacturer: the time and characteristics of the noise; fan model and operating speed; installation structure and fixation method; filter status; air path conditions; noise measurement method; treatment method and replacement requirements; whether the manufacturer is required to be on-site for support.

The sudden increase in FFU noise may be caused by impeller dust accumulation, bearing wear, air path abnormalities, loose installation, or changes in filter status. The investigation should be based on the noise characteristics and operating status, and it cannot be directly determined that the fan is damaged. Inspection sequence, processing method and operation verification are the main aspects of troubleshooting.
