Will high humidity in the warehouse affect high-efficiency filters?

Yes, but the degree of impact depends on the storage method and time and cannot be generalized.

In the same high-humidity warehouse, a filter element that has just been stored for three days and a spare part that has been stored for half a year may be in completely different conditions. There are three things to look at to determine risk: humidity levels, length of storage, and packaging state. Just looking at the numbers on the warehouse hygrometer doesn't tell the whole story.

First check to see if the packaging is still there

HEPA packaging when leaving the factory not only prevents collisions, but also plays a certain role in moisture isolation.

Products with complete packaging and good sealing will have relatively limited internal impact if they are exposed to a high-humidity environment for a short period of time. But if the packaging is damaged, not repackaged after opening, or the outer box absorbs moisture and becomes soft, the path for moisture to enter is open.

Filter elements that have been disassembled and inspected but not reinstalled are at higher risk in high-humidity environments. After opening, it is recommended to repackage it in the original packaging, or move it to an area with controlled temperature and humidity for storage. This point is easily overlooked during the arrival and acceptance process - after inspection, it is simply put back on the shelf, and the packaging is not restored to its original state, and subsequent storage loses protection.

For matching HEPA/ULPA air filter used FFU fan filter unit and The EFU equipment-side fan filter unit and its spare filter elements are also stored according to this principle. Packaging management cannot be simplified because of high replacement frequency.

Condensation is more of a concern than high humidity

High humidity in the warehouse may not directly damage the filter element itself. What needs more attention is the condensation caused by temperature changes.

A typical scenario is: the temperature is high during the day and the air has high moisture content. After cooling down at night, the surface temperature of the filter element is lower than the dew point, and moisture condenses on the filter material or outer frame. In this case, even if the average humidity in the warehouse does not appear to be extreme, localized condensation may occur.

Storage locations close to exterior walls, windows, floors, or vents have greater temperature and humidity fluctuations and a higher risk of condensation. In terms of warehouse management, these locations are not suitable for long-term storage of filter spare parts.

If there are water droplets or obvious condensation inside the package, it is not recommended to install and use this filter element directly. If the filter element is dry on the outside, it does not mean that there is no problem with the internal pleats and glue lines . You should judge whether additional testing or replacement is needed according to the project requirements and the supplier's instructions.

Different components are affected in different ways

The impact of high humidity on the filter occurs by component.

Filter material : Performance may change after absorbing moisture, and different materials have different hygroscopic properties. The performance difference between glass fiber filter material and PTFE filter material in humid environment can be confirmed with the supplier when selecting.

Edge sealing glue : If exposed to a high-humidity environment for a long time, the glue line may age or the bonding strength may decrease, resulting in leakage points after operation. Such problems will not show up during arrival inspection and are potential risks.

Outer frame : If the anti-rust treatment of the metal outer frame is insufficient, it may rust in high-humidity environments. Rust will affect the dimensional accuracy of the outer frame and the condition of the sealing surface.

Sealing gasket : The resilience performance may change after absorbing moisture, affecting the sealing effect after compression.

Among these items, problems with filter media and edge sealing glue are the least likely to be discovered. Only the appearance can be seen during the arrival inspection, and the internal condition must be judged by the performance in use. Therefore, the management of storage environment is essentially to control such invisible risks.

Several things you can do in warehouse management

Control temperature and humidity fluctuations, not just average values. Warehouses with small temperature fluctuations have a lower risk of condensation.

Filters are stored off the floor. Floor moisture is a common source of moisture, and padding or racking can reduce the direct impact.

Keep away from water sources and exterior walls. Spare parts should not be placed in locations where pipes are leaking or walls are damp.

Keep the packaging and inspect it regularly. Record the date and product number when entering storage, and regularly check whether the packaging is damp or deformed.

First in, first out. Spare parts that have been in stock for a long time will be used first to reduce the uncertainty caused by long-term storage. This is especially important in warehouses with many types of spare parts. It is recommended to match the product number with the location of the applicable equipment to avoid temporarily using filter elements that are similar in size but have different sealing structures.

What to check when arriving and leaving the warehouse?

When arriving, check the outer box for collision, deformation, and water stains. After unpacking, check the condition of the outer frame, filter material folds, protective net, and sealing gasket.

Check again before leaving the warehouse for installation. For spare parts that have been stored for a long time, focus on whether the packaging is damp, whether there is rust on the outer frame, and whether the sealing gasket is deformed. If an abnormality is found, isolate it first, take photos and record the product number and storage location, and determine whether it affects installation and use.

This set of inspection process and the transportation arrival inspection can be combined and executed, and do not need to be divided into two sets. The key is to leave a record of every handover so that the status changes of the filter element can be traced.

About Aili Industrial’s spare parts storage support

Aili Industrial can specify the packaging, handling and storage requirements according to the specific filter structure. filter with FFU fan filter unit、The EFU equipment-end fan filter unit is matched in the same manufacturing system, and the spare parts packaging plan can be confirmed together with the storage conditions of the complete machine.

For spare parts that have been stored for a long time or have concerns about moisture, it is recommended to record the product number and on-site status before deciding whether to install them. Specific storage conditions are subject to product packaging markings and technical confirmation documents.

Aili Industrial develops and manufactures FFU, EFU, HEPA/ULPA air filters, high-efficiency air supply vents, fan boxes and other clean air equipment. Relying on motors, fans, control systems, filters and complete machine supporting capabilities, we provide selection and customization support for clean room and production equipment projects.
