This question seems simple, but it would be irresponsible to give a unified answer.
Large-sized box filters and small-sized equipment-side filter elements have different frame strengths, filter material support methods, and packaging structures. Whether it can be laid flat depends on the packaging design of the product itself, and it cannot be one-size-fits-all based on experience. Some product packages clearly indicate the allowed placement directions, so follow the markings; if the markings are unclear, ask the supplier directly, which is more reliable than following conventional practices.
What really needs attention is not the action itself of 'whether it can be laid flat', but what force is exerted on the filter material and sealing structure after being laid flat.
HEPA packaging when leaving the factory usually indicates the direction requirements based on the product structure.
Large-size products: The force direction of the outer frame under its own weight is different from the direction of the force during transportation. If the packaging design is based on vertical placement, the support points of the outer frame are distributed in one direction; after being laid flat, the stress position changes, and the load during transportation bumps may exceed the design range, causing the outer frame to twist.
Liquid tank sealing products: The tank structure is sensitive to the placement direction. Placing it sideways or upside down may cause the tank to bear forces in directions other than those designed, affecting dimensional accuracy. The packaging of this type of product generally has clear posture markings.
Small size equipment-side filter element: The filter element used inside EFU or EFEM is small in size, light in weight, and the packaging method is relatively flexible. But even so, the direction of the protective net and filter material is still particular and cannot be stacked randomly.
It is easiest to follow the packaging label. When you need to change the placement method, first confirm with the supplier instead of making your own judgment.
The most common problem during transportation is the outer frame.
Once the outer frame is twisted or diagonally deformed, the sealing surface with the mounting frame will not be pressed tightly after installation. This kind of deformation is sometimes difficult to see with the naked eye, especially if the long side is slightly bent. When inspecting the product upon arrival, you can measure the diagonal, or place the product on a flat surface to see if the four corners are in contact at the same time.
For liquid tank sealing products, the flatness and straightness of the tank body are equally important. After deformation, the insertion depth of the knife edge is uneven, and the surrounding sealing state is different. This type of problem will only be exposed during leak detection after installation, but the root cause lies in the transportation link.
When large quantities arrive, it is more effective to randomly inspect a few units and take diagonal measurements than to just check the appearance.
In addition to the outer frame, the filter material itself also has a force direction.
The pleated structure has good pressure-bearing capacity in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the filter material, but if it is squeezed in the parallel direction or shearing direction, the pleats may be deformed or damaged. The packaging design will provide supports on both sides of the filter material to avoid stress during transportation. If the placement direction is changed, the original support position may become invalid.
For products with a protective net, the function of the protective net is to prevent direct contact with the filter material surface. If the protective net is facing down when placed flat, the weight of the entire product may be transferred to the filter material through the protective net, which is a situation that should be avoided.
This is not easy to find during arrival inspection, but if the filter material is indeed pressurized during transportation, it may show abnormal local wind speed or abnormal pressure difference after operation.
Regardless of the method of transportation, inspection steps upon arrival are necessary.
First look at the outer box: collision marks, deformation, and water stains. The damaged locations on the outer box often correspond to locations where the internal products may be affected.
Then unpack and check: the four corners of the outer frame, the straightness of the long sides, the pleats of the filter material, the status of the protective net and sealing gasket. Products with abnormalities are first isolated, photographed and recorded, and the product number and arrival batch are marked.
For products whose placement has been adjusted during transportation, it is recommended to add diagonal measurements and flatness checks. If deformation is found, do not install it first. Determine whether it will affect the sealing and filter material, and then decide how to deal with it. Supporting HEPA/ULPA air filter used FFU fan filter unit and When replacing the filter element of the fan filter unit at the EFU equipment end , the same procedure should be followed. Do not simplify the steps just because of frequent replacement.
Filter elements that have been accepted but not yet installed should be stored in a clean and dry area according to the supplier's requirements.
The original packaging still has a protective effect during storage and is not recommended to be removed in advance. When stacking in the warehouse, it is necessary to operate according to the number of layers allowed for packaging. Super layer stacking may cause the bottom product to bear additional load.
In terms of spare parts management, it is recommended to match the product number with the location of the applicable equipment to avoid temporarily using filter elements that are similar in size but have different sealing structures. In high-humidity seasons, attention should also be paid to packaging getting damp. Specific storage requirements can be confirmed based on the temperature and humidity conditions of the warehouse.
Aili Industrial can specify the packaging, handling and storage requirements according to the specific filter structure. Since filters, fans, control systems and sheet metal are in the same manufacturing system,FFU fan filter unit and The complete packaging solution of the EFU equipment-side fan filter unit can be confirmed together with the filter element packaging to reduce adaptation issues in the transportation process.
When an abnormality is found upon arrival, it is recommended to record the product number and on-site status, take photos and save them, and then determine whether it will affect installation and use. The transportation and storage conditions of specific products are subject to product packaging markings and technical confirmation documents.
