After the FFU is installed, even if the total air volume meets the design value, the actual air volume in different areas may still differ. The air inlet conditions, filter resistance, installation seal, ceiling structure and return air path may affect the actual air supply of each FFU.
If air volume is low in certain areas, there may be insufficient airflow at critical workstations. If the air volume is high in some areas, it may cause unnecessary energy consumption or air flow disturbance. Air volume balance is to make the air volume in each area close to the design value through measurement and adjustment.
Therefore, air volume balance needs to be performed after FFU installation. Aili Industrial has complete production capabilities in FFU complete machine and air flow design, and can coordinate air volume balancing with the project. For the basic structure of the FFU machine, you can refer toAili Industrial FFU fan filter unit。
Divide the areas before balancing the air volume. Areas can be divided by process function, cleanliness level, room location, ceiling zoning or return air path. The key process area, auxiliary area, passage and return air area can be treated as independent areas.
The area division should be combined with the actual layout to avoid being too large or too small. Zoning boundaries should be marked on drawings to facilitate measurement and adjustment.
If the project requires partition control, you can refer toHow to implement partition control on multiple FFUs and understand the partition settings.
Measuring points should cover key locations in each area. Including FFU air outlet, key positions of work stations, product exposure positions and near the return air outlet. The height of the measuring point should be consistent with the actual protection position.
The number of measuring points should reflect the regional air volume distribution. If the area is large, measuring points can be arranged in a grid. If there is equipment blocking the area, measurements should be made before and after the obstruction.
Regarding the setting of measuring points for wind speed uniformity, please refer toHow to express FFU wind speed uniformity .
Air volume measurement can use the wind speed conversion method or the air volume hood method. Measurements should be carried out under stable operating conditions, and measurement locations, methods and results should be recorded.
The wind speed conversion method requires confirmation of the effective air outlet area. For details, please refer toWhen FFU uses wind speed to calculate air volume, which air outlet area should be used to understand the area value.
The adjustment sequence can be carried out according to the following ideas. First confirm that all FFU operating status and settings are consistent. Then measure the air volume in each area to find out the high and low areas. Then adjust the FFU speed or control setting in the low area. Then review the higher areas and lower them appropriately if necessary. Finally, check the return air path and room pressure difference to confirm that the system is balanced.
Adjustments should be made gradually to avoid large adjustments causing changes in other areas. Measurements should be re-measured after each adjustment.
If the project uses a group control system, different speeds or control parameters can be set by area. After the partitions are balanced, the setting values of each area can be saved in the group control system.
Regarding the group control system solution, you can refer toFFU/EFU group control touch screen controller andFFU computer group control system . Aili Industrial has complete self-research capabilities in FFU control systems and can provide control solutions according to project zoning requirements.
After the balance adjustment is completed, the air volume in each area should be re-measured. Confirm that the wind speed at key locations meets the requirements and the difference in air volume between areas is within a reasonable range. Check the room pressure differential and airflow direction to confirm that the system is stable.
Verification records should be retained, including measuring point locations, measurement results, adjustment parameters and verification conclusions.
In the FFU air volume balance stage, it is recommended to confirm the following with the FFU manufacturer and designer: area division method; design air volume and wind speed; measuring point layout and measurement method; adjustment sequence and scope; group control partition setting; key workstation requirements; verification method and judgment standard; recording format.

To balance the air volume after FFU installation, you need to first clarify the areas and measuring points, then measure the air volume in each area, and adjust the FFU speed or control settings in sequence. Qualified total air volume does not mean partial balance. Zoning, measuring point setting, adjustment sequence and group control cooperation are the main links in air volume balancing.
